The Sekondi High Court has overturned the injunction that barred Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The decision, delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, followed a prior adjournment during which the NDC requested the court to lift the injunction and dismiss the substantive disqualification case against its candidate..
At the previous hearing, Edudzie Tamakloe, a lead counsel for Joana Gyan Cudjoe, urged the court to expedite the substantive case, arguing that further delays could disenfranchise his client ahead of the December 7 elections. His Lordship Gyan-Kontoh agreed to review the matter promptly and encouraged the parties to consider an out-of-court settlement.
Despite these suggestions, the parties failed to reach a settlement, prompting today’s ruling, which cleared Joana Gyan Cudjoe to proceed with her candidacy.
Following this, the decision resolves the case in time for the elections, allowing the NDC candidate to vie for the Amenfi Central seat. His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh presided over the case.
