Court Blocks Cynthia Morrison From Contesting 2024 Elections

Written by Sarah Boye

The Agona Swedru District Court has placed an injunction on Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, barring her from running as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections.

This action follows a petition by Emmanuel Addison, Solomon Nyarko, and Harrison A. Aglago, who argue that Miss Cynthia is a resident of Agona East, not Agona West, making her ineligible to contest the seat.

The former gender minister, who has represented Agona West for eight years under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since her election in 2016, lost the NPP parliamentary primary on April 12, 2024.

She garnered 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur won with 240 votes. Following her defeat, Morrison declared her intention to run as an independent candidate.
