After Chef Ebenezer Smith proclaimed a new record at the La Palm Beach Hotel, it has come to light that his assertions lack validity following extensive inquiries from Ghanaians contacting Guinness World Records (GWR) to validate the new record’s authenticity.
Sources indicate that GWR has explicitly stated that Chef Smith does not hold the title for the longest cooking marathon and has not received official certification.
GWR specified that
“the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds, achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.”
Despite widespread headlines and news reports implying that Smith had established a new world record, GWR confirmed that Alan Fisher from Ireland continues to hold the current record.
In an interview, Chef Smith’s manager, Benny Benjamine, contested GWR’s denial, asserting that the team had initially received an email from GWR affirming the record.
Chef Smith had declared in a press conference on July 2 that he had been named the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, citing his attempt from February to March 2024 and presenting a certificate to bolster his claim.
