The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced hairstylist Adwoa Nyarko to five years in prison for her involvement in a GH¢139,000 recruitment scam.
Convicted on four charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretences, Nyarko now faces prison time while her accomplices, Nana Osei and Charles Kwame Damoah, remain at large.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackon, the prosecutor, informed the court, presided over by Mrs. Ellen Ofei Ayeh, that Nyarko lived in Wenchi.
In September 2021, complainants Nana Yaw Barimah and Collins Atta Oteng reported the scam to the police. ASP Ackon explained that in 2020, Nyarko and her accomplices collected GH¢39,000, promising to secure employment for the complainants’ relatives at the Ghana Revenue Authority, but failed to fulfil the promise.
Following the complaint, police investigations led to Nyarko’s arrest in Asankare, Ashanti Region. During interrogation, she admitted to receiving the money but claimed she passed it to her accomplices, who are still at large.
