Unlike several female creatives who have left the field owing to marriage, Ghanaian artist Wendy Shay has stated that she will not give up her music career in such a situation.
Wendy told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces that any man who wants to marry her must share her musical ambitions since music is what makes her relevant in the world.
“I am not even thinking about marriage because, as you know, music is my destiny and that is what makes me relevant in this life, and so I don’t think that I will trade something like that for marriage,” she said.
“You should be in alignment with my destiny. If it’s just lovey-dovey and you’re just loving me and taking care of me, I don’t think that is enough for me to give you attention,” she added.
After getting married and having kids, many female creatives have left their work to pursue other opportunities.
Combining family responsibilities with the drudgery of their artistic pursuits is too much for most of them. They’d rather save their marriages and provide for their families.
Wendy Shay has two new songs out: ‘Every Man Cheats’ and ‘Heartless,’ both of which strive to empower women against men’s deception.
