The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), shifting the tournament from its original dates of February 1-28 to August.
In a statement, CAF made this decision due to the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and a revised football calendar.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will now co-host the competition, which will feature 16 teams. The tournament remains exclusive to players who compete in their respective domestic leagues.
On January 14, CAF issued a statement citing concerns over infrastructure and facilities in the host countries as the reason for the delay.
However, CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence that the host nations will deliver a successful event, despite the schedule change.
The draw for the competition will still take place as scheduled on January 15 at 17:00 GMT in Nairobi, Kenya.
