Borussia Dortmund Sacks Head Coach Nuri Sahin

Written by Sarah Boye

Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following their 2-1 defeat to Bologna in the Champions League.

“We have great respect for Nuri Sahin and his efforts, and we had hoped for a long-term partnership. Until the end, we believed we could turn things around together,” said Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken.

The loss to Bologna on Tuesday marked their third defeat in this season’s competition, leaving last season’s runners-up needing a result against Shakhtar Donetsk in their final group-stage match to secure a spot in the knockout rounds.

A string of three consecutive domestic defeats to start 2025 has left Dortmund in 10th place in the Bundesliga, seven points adrift of the top four, threatening their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The German club has now suffered four consecutive losses across all competitions since the winter break.
