Written by Sarah Boye

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has blamed the Black Stars’ poor performance on the declining state of the country under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at a mini-rally at the Akim Oda truck station on Tuesday, November 19, during his five-day tour of the Eastern Region, Mahama called on Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming elections to restore hope, progress, and the fortunes of the Black Stars.

“We have lost everything. The Black Stars, which brought us joy, are now at their worst.” Mahama said,

Further, he highlighted that the Black Stars had qualified for every Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the past 20 years, but this time, they failed to make it past the qualifiers.

He noted that even war-torn Sudan had qualified, while Ghana could not, attributing the team’s failure to poor governance over the last eight years.

His remarks followed the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, a major blow for a team that has long been a source of national pride.
