Ghana’s Black Maidens kicked off their WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup campaign with a dominant 4-1 win over Benin on Thursday, December 12.

Christiana Ashiaku netted a first-half hat trick, leading coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s team to victory at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

Priscilla Mensah put Ghana ahead just five minutes into the match, slipping past the Benin defence to score into an empty net. Ashiaku doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a penalty, then added another in the 42nd minute, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

Ashiaku completed her hat trick in the 45th minute after a brilliant assist from Jessica Appiah Asamoah, extending Ghana’s advantage to four.

Benin scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute, but Ghana held firm to secure the 4-1 win and move to the top of Group A.
