Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku declared that no betting company has authorisation to offer odds on Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.
He announced that the GFA’s legal team will soon take action against betting companies that continue to include GPL matches in their offerings without permission.
Okraku considers this measure crucial in tackling the ongoing issue of match-fixing within the league. Last season, suspicious scorelines led several betting companies to remove GPL games from their platforms.
“We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games. We will empower our legal department to confront this issue head-on. It is not okay for betting companies to feed on our football,” Okraku stated during the 30th Ordinary Congress in Prampram. “It is time to say no to such companies. We are open to doing it the legal way and will invite companies interested in partnering with us to speak to us.”
Okraku insisted that GPL matches should not appear in betting markets, as no betting company has received approval.
His administration has taken a firm stance against match-fixing, as demonstrated by the demotion of Inter Allies and the indefinite suspension of AshantiGold for match manipulation.
The Congress also initiated the countdown to the new season, set to begin on September 6.
