With an astounding 61.43% of the total valid votes cast, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has emerged victorious in the party’s presidential primary.
His commanding victory solidifies his strong standing within the party and establishes him as one of the front-runners in the approaching general elections.
Dr. Bawumia received an astounding 118,210 votes out of the total valid votes cast, greatly surpassing the votes cast for his nearest competitors. NPP leader Kennedy Agyapong received 71,991 votes, or 37.42% of the total valid votes cast. This was a good performance, but it was not enough to overtake Dr. Bawumia’s advantage.
In the NPP flagbearership contest, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto received 1,459 votes, or 0.76% of the total valid votes cast.
Despite his relatively low level of support, Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s entry into the contest demonstrates the democratic aspect of the NPP’s selection procedure.
Only 781 votes, or 0.41%, were collected by Francis Addai-Nimoh, another candidate for the NPP presidency. His dedication to the NPP’s candidacy campaign, despite his scant support, emphasizes the party’s inclusivity.
Considering Dr. Bawumia’s record as vice president and his dedication to the party’s ideals, it is not surprising that he won the NPP presidential primary. With such a strong lead, Dr. Bawumia demonstrates the party members’ faith in his leadership abilities.
