Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to support traders at the Kantamanto Market in rebuilding the facility by personally funding the installation of CCTV cameras.

During a visit to the market on Monday, Dr. Bawumia expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, which has left many traders devastated, losing both their goods and livelihoods.

“We came here because of the fire, which completely destroyed everything. I was deeply saddened by the news. Some leaders have visited, but I wanted to come personally. What I’ve seen is heartbreaking—every trader has lost everything, and we’ve also lost one life,” he said.

Further , Dr Bawumia confirmed that investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing, with initial reports pointing to possible arson. However, he emphasised the need for thorough verification before drawing conclusions.

“Once we rebuild the market, we must ensure better security. I will bring the CCTV cameras myself and have them installed in Kantamanto,” he said.

Despite the setback, Dr Bawumia commended the traders for starting the reconstruction of parts of the market. He also promised to provide essential materials such as wood, cement, and roofing sheets to support the rebuilding efforts.
