Written by Sarah Boye

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a new electronic gate (E-GATE) system at Kotoka International Airport to improve passenger convenience and strengthen border security.

Addressing attendees, he explained that the system streamlines travel for arriving passengers, speeds up processing times, and enhances measures to prevent illegal entry into Ghana.

“Our E-GATE system employs advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, biometrics, and data processing to deliver a seamless travel experience,” Dr. Bawumia said. “With the capability to process E-visas, Ghana is now ready for the future of border management.”

Further, he emphasised that the initiative, developed by Ghanaians, positions the country to embrace the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions while reflecting national pride and innovation.

Unveiled on December 3, the E-GATE system marks a major milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey, offering benefits to travellers, citizens, the diaspora, and international visitors alike.
