Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president has strongly criticised recent statements made by former President John Mahama, labelling them as inappropriate.
Speaking during his campaign in Amasaman on Monday, Bawumia argued that such language is unbecoming of a former president and urged for a more respectful tone in political discussions.
He stated,
“This election is between myself and former President Mahama, and he knows he will lose, so he gets frustrated easily. Today I heard he insulted pastors, chiefs, imams, and CSOs, calling them hypocrites. Is that how a former president should speak?
Recently, he also insulted the Electoral Commission and called the NPP government foolish. Is this the language of a former president? We need to maintain decency in our political language. This election should be about ideas, not insults.”
Bawumia’s remarks followed Mahama’s accusation against certain civil society organisations (CSOs) and religious leaders, whom he called hypocrites for not criticising the current NPP government.
