Ayensu River Diversion Cause Vehicular Traffic On The Accra-Winneba Highway

Written by Sarah Boye

A contractor’s diversion of the Ayensu River during work on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway caused the main Accra-Winneba Highway to cave in, greatly impeding the flow of vehicular traffic.

On Thursday morning, strong floodwaters from the Ayensu River stranded commuters by creating a big gulley across the main highway.

Frustrated commuters called for urgent measures to restore the broken road and demanded sanctions against the contractor.

This diversion has affected a bridge spanning the Ayensu River, which originates in the Eastern Region, flows across the Accra-Cape Coast Highway at Gomoa Okyereko in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
