In the wake of Nigerian musician Asake’s historic sold-out performance at London’s prestigious O2 Arena, Ghanaian Dancehall sensation Shatta Wale has expressed his concerns about the state of the Ghanaian music industry. In a series of candid tweets, Shatta Wale lamented the stark contrast between the successes of Nigerian musicians and their Ghanaian counterparts, stating that the Ghanaian music industry resembled a “feeding bottle” compared to the Nigerian industry, which he likened to a “Hennessy bottle.”
Asake, born Ahmed Oloade, achieved a remarkable milestone on Sunday night when he became the first Nigerian emerging artist to fill the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. This achievement marked a monumental moment in Asake’s career, and it left the industry buzzing with excitement.
Shatta Wale, known for his unfiltered opinions, took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Asake on his groundbreaking accomplishment. In his tweet, he didn’t hold back his thoughts on the disparity between the two West African music industries. Shatta Wale wrote, “Nigerians are making Ghana music look like a feeding bottle compared to a Hennessy bottle. Congrats to Asake meeenn!!!”
He went on to address some of the skepticism and questions raised by Ghanaians regarding the secrets behind Nigeria’s thriving music industry. Shatta Wale responded by saying, “You guys deh run tooo fast…F*ck.”
In a follow-up tweet, he addressed a hypothetical inquiry from a fellow Ghanaian: “Some Ghana man say how do they do it? Me: when you stop judging people here like you are angels, I think we can get the formula. Naija is winning BIG TIME!!! My people.”
Asake’s performance at the O2 Arena was nothing short of spectacular. He made a grand entrance, arriving on stage in a helicopter in the midst of the auditorium, leaving the audience in awe. The concert featured a medley of tracks from his debut album, ‘Mr Money With The Vibe,’ as well as his sophomore project, ‘Work Of Art.’
Notably, Asake brought out fellow Nigerian artists like Fireboy DML, Lil Kesh, and several others, creating an unforgettable night for his fans and all music enthusiasts in attendance. His achievement at the O2 Arena solidified his status as a rising star in the Nigerian music scene.
