The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has clarified that it deployed military personnel to the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) at the request of the Speaker of Parliament.
In a press statement, GAF dismissed media reports suggesting that the military were employing to interfere with Parliament’s Fifth Meeting of the Fourth Session, calling these allegations baseless and damaging to the reputation of Speaker Albert Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.
The GAF explained that the Speaker, through the Clerk of Parliament, had requested security assistance for routine canine and bomb sweeps of the Chamber.
Their personnel were not there to disrupt parliamentary proceedings but to ensure safety by conducting checks for explosive devices or harmful substances.
