Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint qualified individuals to leadership roles in the creative arts sector.
Speaking in an interview with Lexis Bill, Akofa stressed the importance of having the right people in key positions to help the sector thrive.
“We need to have a serious round-table discussion to set things right. If the President is truly steadfast to resetting and rebuilding, he must appoint individuals who understand the socio-economic impact of the arts”
Further, Akofa also highlighted the critical role of the creative sector in national development, particularly film and theatre, which she believes are essential for a nation’s progress.
“Arts and culture are fundamental to any nation’s growth, yet we often overlook them. Without culture, a nation lacks a soul. We cannot continue to separate culture and the arts from other societal aspects—they must be fuse,” she emphasise.
Concluding her remarks, Akofa emphasised the need to build a solid foundation in the sector.
“If we don’t establish a strong base, our efforts will continue to crumble, just as they have in the past,” she warned.
