Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin expelled the Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dr Kwaku Afriyie from the chamber on Monday, July 22, after the MP challenged his authority during a session.
Amid the session, the Speaker advised members of applying the new standing orders to the referral process and emphasized considering the expectations of the people of Ghana.
However,Dr Afriyie then stood up and said,
“Mr. Speaker, with all due respect, your preliminary comment is prejudicial. Representing the people of Sefwi-Wiawso, I believe it is not your place to remind us of your comments.”
A furious Speaker Bagbin responded,
“These remarks are completely rude, and I can send you out of the House now. It lies in my authority to do so. You represent the people of Sefwi-Wiawso, but I represent the whole country. Marshall, please take him out of the house. I will not entertain such disrespect.”
