The leader of the Movement for Change, Mr Alan Kyerematen, has sparked a debate over the Ministry of Information’s role, pledging to pull apart if elected in Ghana’s December 7 election.
Speaking at the Media Encounter with Alan Kyerematen, he labelled the ministry as a “waste pipe” that offers little value to government operations.
Mr Kyerematen questioned the ministry’s necessity, stating,
“What does the Ministry of Information do? I have no interest in a whole ministry talking about government projects.” He argued that developed economies do not have similar ministries and suggested redirecting its budget to more impactful projects.
Further, he vowed to reallocate the ministry’s funds to other areas if elected, asserting,
“We don’t need the Ministry of Information; we can save the money and use it to support other projects and turn the ministry staff into business professionals.”
