Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has disclosed that John Alan Kyerematen, the presidential candidate for the Movement for Change, approached him to be his running mate.
Speaking on Joy FM, Okyeame Kwame explained that despite meeting Alan’s criteria, he declined the offer due to family commitments.
“Alan listed ten qualities he wanted in a vice-presidential candidate. He prioritized a strong educational background, experience in development work, an active social media presence, a professional career, and marital status.”
Further, While Okyeame Kwame fit the profile, he turned down the opportunity, citing his responsibility to his children, aged 15 and 13, who needed more preparation for the pressures of partisan politics.
“I had to consider my family’s security and the potential impact of propaganda or personal attacks. My children weren’t ready for such exposure, and politics wasn’t part of our family’s short-, mid-, or long-term plans,” he explained.
He highlighted the importance of consistency in his decisions, adding, “I always teach my children to remain consistent, even when unexpected opportunities arise. Accepting this role would have gone against that principle.”
Following Okyeame Kwame’s decision, Alan Kyerematen chose Kwame Owusu Danso, a lawyer, broadcaster, and PR consultant from the defunct music group Echo, as his running mate.
