At a sod-cutting ceremony in Accra on August 24, President Akufo-Addo announced plans to upgrade the motorway into a modern 10-lane highway.
According to him, the 27.7-kilometre project will focus on three main areas. Thus, rehabilitating the motorway, enhancing the George Walker Bush Highway, and upgrading the Nsawam Road.
Moreover, the highway, which connects the industrial hub of Tema to the centre of Accra, will undergo reconstruction through a public-private partnership with a wholly Ghanaian-owned company.
Additionally, the project will involve the redevelopment of major interchanges, the addition of toll plazas and footbridges, and the implementation of other critical infrastructure improvements.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, prosperous, and interconnected Ghana to strengthen local businesses and also represent a significant milestone for the nation.
