President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasised the critical need for equal opportunities to drive growth for Africans.
At the Annual UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, he criticised excessive Western aid that undermines Africa’s ability to shape its own future. He argued that Africans want access to education, healthcare, and jobs within a new global framework, rather than relying on handouts.
Further, Akufo-Addo expressed concern about the global system’s tendency to see Africans as passive aid recipients instead of equal partners. He highlighted Africa’s achievements and potential while noting the consequences of marginalization.
Despite its wealth and resilience, the continent often receives little attention in global discussions. Many promised supports fail to materialise, frequently coming with conditions that restrict Africa’s autonomy.
Additionally, he asserted that Africa is not a land of despair but one filled with possibilities, requiring a new path for development. The people of Africa call for opportunities, not handouts, to enhance their lives and those of future generations.
