President Akufo-Addo has appointed nine envoys to represent Ghana within international organisations and across various countries in a ceremony held at the Jubilee House in Accra.
In his address, Akufo-Addo stated that he appointed these diplomats as part of a broader initiative to enhance Ghana’s global presence.
Specifically, the appointments include three High Commissioners, five Ambassadors, and one Ambassador-at-Large.
Emphasising their roles, the president highlighted that the diplomats’ primary responsibility is to portray Ghana as a stable, peaceful, and progressive nation.
This involves engaging with host countries to build strong bilateral relationships, attract investments, and advocate for Ghana’s interests.
Furthermore, the President underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering international cooperation, particularly given the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The newly appointed representatives include Vice Admiral Seth Amoama as High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria, Mrs Francisca Ashietey-Oduntun as High Commissioner-designate to South Africa, and Mr Ernest Yaw Amporful as High Commissioner-designate to Rwanda.
Additionally, Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh has been appointed as Ambassador-designate to Turkey, Mr. Henry Tachie-Menson as Ambassador-designate to Belgium and the EU, Mrs. Charity Gbedawo as Ambassador-designate to Morocco, Ms. Abigail Naa Adzoko Kwashi as Ambassador-designate to Norway, and Dr. Robert Afriyie as Ambassador-designate to Ethiopia and the African Union.
