Veteran Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has raised concerns about the lack of respect for Ghana’s creative arts sector.
In a TV3 interview, Miss Edjeani underscored the sector’s essential role in preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural heritage. She urged leaders to recognise the sector’s broader impact beyond just entertainment.
“We are the custodians of our culture, and leaders need to understand this and make effective use of us. Our contributions extend beyond entertainment; they encompass information, education, and the ability to influence people’s perspectives. This critical role is currently being overlooked. We educate, guide, and set directions, so this industry deserves priority. Culture is the foundation of a nation,” she stated.
Further, Edjeani also pointed out,
“Currently, the foundation is weak. We’ve neglected our culture, resulting in a situation where anything is accepted. Consequently, the entire country is suffering.”
