Ghanaian top musician Stonebwoy in recent interview has made a bold statement to cement the origin of Afrobeat when he disagreed that the music style could be one day colonised by the West.
Sitting in America’s +44 studio to discuss his musical journey, the “5th Dimension Album” maker touched on the invasion of afrodancehall where he expositted that it was a calling he had.
Morealso, he firmly indicated that there will never be a day for the white to own the African indigen musical style, afrobeat.
Even though he agrees that every race can hop on the genre but the root of Afrobeat will always be African.
“There is this African adage that says when a woman is pregnant we say the baby is her’s but not when after the baby is born. Everybody will want to send the baby on an errand but the fact is, the motherhood of the baby can’t be claimed from the mother”.
Stonebwoy believes Afrobeat is the identity of African music and can never be compromised with however the western industry may want to modify the sound.
