After Cape Verde defeated the Black Stars on Sunday, Chris Hughton apologized to Ghanaians and voiced his disappointment.
The late goal ended the Black Stars’ tournament hopes, as it was their third straight Africa Cup of Nations without an opening-round victory.
Ghana is in a tough spot and needs to overcome seven-time champion Egypt in their next game to get their campaign back on track. They lost the match as soon as the 17th minute, as Jamiro Monteiro scored with ease off a rebound after Richard Ofori had parried a long shot.
Hughton expressed his disappointment by saying, “We are incredibly hugely disappointed with the result. We came into the game with a game plan to start on the front foot.”
The Black Stars could be eliminated early from the competition because of their important match against Egypt on Thursday. This is similar to the last tournament.
