“Address Members’ Grievances” -TUC, National Identification Authority Division Tells Gov’t

Written by Sarah Boye

The Divisional Executive Council of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), National Identification Authority (NIA) division, has commence an indefinite strike from today, Monday, June 10, 2024.

This decision follows a strike scheduled for March 24 postponed due to the intervention of the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations after the council’s unanimous agreement during a meeting on May 23.

However, in a statement dated June 9, the union expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of commitment to negotiate better conditions of service for NIA staff, as agreed upon for the strike’s deferral.

The statement, signed by Council Secretary Kwabena Adu Kyeremeh and Council Chairman Francis Bangfudeme Nyuzaghi, highlighted the union’s resolve to address members’ grievances by initiating this indefinite strike.

Consequently, all services provided by PSWU members at NIA District offices, regional offices, headquarters, and premium centers will cease indefinitely, until further notice.
