Written by Sarah Boye

The member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini has called on President Akuffo-Addo to urgently address the nation about Ghana’s current environmental crisis.

During a press briefing, the Ranking Member of the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Alhassan Suhuyini, expressed his concerns by criticising the government’s inaction on pressing issues such as illegal mining, deforestation, and pollution and accused the administration of failing to enforce environmental regulations effectively, leading to the continued destruction of vital ecosystems crucial for sustainable development.

Mr Suhuyini warned that this environmental degradation endangers the health and well-being of Ghanaians and urged the President to outline concrete measures for addressing these issues, including rehabilitation efforts and stricter enforcement of environmental laws.

Additionally, he criticised both the President and Vice President, suggesting that their focus on election-related concerns is undermining effective governance and there is an urgent need for high-level government intervention.
