The Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has called the abolition of road tolls an unlawful decision.
During his vetting in Parliament on January 20, Agbodza explain that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Roads and Transport Committee cautioned against the toll cancellation before it was announce .
Despite these warnings, former Minister of Roads and Highways Kwasi Amoako-Attah proceeded with the policy, ignoring concerns from various stakeholders and experts.
“This issue has garnered national attention. The Road Fund’s revenue was just GH¢250 million, but we worked to increase it to GH¢1.5 billion, and it now exceeds GH¢2 billion. We admonish the government not to abolish the tolls, and we were surprise when they did. Cancelling them was an illegal act”.
