The Ghana AIDS Commission reports that 35% of Ghanaians living with HIV do not know their status, and 55% of them are not on antiretroviral treatment.
Addressing the National Durbar Celebration for World AIDS Day on December 2, the Commission’s Director-General, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene, highlighted the progress made in combating the epidemic. However, he stressed that many individuals’ failure to adhere to antiretroviral treatment has stalled efforts to meet treatment targets.
“Despite our progress, the epidemic’s decline remains slow. An estimated 35% of people living with HIV have not tested and remain unaware of their status, while 55% are not receiving antiretroviral medication.” Dr Atuahene said.
