Dr Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that 19 individuals have picked nomination forms to run as independent presidential candidates in December 7 elections.
Speaking on JoyNews, Dr Quaicoe explained that while the forms are free to obtain, candidates must pay a fee when submitting them.
He pointed out that although democracy has its costs, it ensures that all eligible individuals have the opportunity to participate.
“Once someone meets these qualifications, they are eligible to obtain the nomination forms. The Constitution requires candidates to be at least 40 years old, be taxpayers, and not hold allegiance to any foreign country.” Dr Quaicoe stated.
Consequently, he added that some people might collect the forms without actually pursuing their candidacy.
