A campaign team member of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Alberta Afia Akoto, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Adepa Group of Companies, which specialises in importing cosmetic products and groceries, Akoto demands GHc 5 million in damages, including exemplary and punitive damages, for defamation.
She also seeks a perpetual injunction to prevent A-Plus from making further defamatory statements about her. In a writ of summons dated Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Akoto requests four reliefs, including a court order for the hip-hop artist to retract his defamatory comments.
She asserts that A-Plus, who intends to run as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Gomoa Central Constituency, made defamatory remarks against her. As the former Deputy Director of Communication for the New
Patriotic Party (2012-2016) and a current campaign team member for the party’s presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, Akoto seeks several reliefs.
She claims A-Plus maliciously published the statements to damage her integrity and reputation and to incite disapproval from the Ghanaian public.
