Police have taken 16-year-old Rebecca Nyomi into custody after she set fire to her boyfriend’s room in the New Nkusukum suburb of Mankessim following a breakup.
GH ONE News reports that Rebecca confronted her boyfriend, Samuel Agbobli, at his workplace to demand upkeep money.
When Samuel refused and ended their relationship, accusing her of infidelity, Rebecca pleaded for forgiveness, but Samuel forcibly removed her from the shop.
In retaliation, Rebecca used a spare key to enter Samuel’s room, locked all the doors and windows, and set the room on fire. Neighbours noticed the smoke and alerted Samuel, but his belongings were completely destroyed by the time he arrived.
Rebecca confessed to the act, claiming she contributed to purchasing the items in the room and saw no reason for Samuel to keep them after their breakup.
The Assembly Member for New Nkusukum, Hon. Alhaji Alli Amoah Abubakuri, condemned the act and urged teenagers to avoid such destructive behaviours in relationships.
